Milsom Weddings

We know how important it is to have a picture-perfect wedding and you’re sure to have the perfect backdrop for photographs of your special day at whichever Milsom Weddings venue you choose.

You’ve probably already got your perfect wedding dress in mind and starting looking for the accompanying bridesmaid dresses. There are a lot of things to consider when looking for these gorgeous outfits for your special day, and we’ve written a few bits of advice we’ve picked up after more than 60 years of wedding planning.

Where to begin?

The best way to start is by doing some research. Be it flicking through magazines or browsing the web make sure you tear out pages, save images and bookmark dresses you like. Create a board of all the dresses you like to help your zero in on any colours and styles you like best. This also allows your bridesmaids to see what type of dress you have in mind.

Bare costs in mind

It is customary that bridesmaids pay for their own dresses. With this in mind, it is a good idea to consider your friends’ financial situations before buying the dresses. Focus your searches on a more affordable range if this is the case. You may also choose to hire the dresses instead of buying them to reduce cost.

Shades and colours

One of the best ways to pick the perfect colour for your bridesmaids dresses is to pick a colour complementary to the season in which your wedding is taking place. Lighter shades such as mint and lavender work really well in Spring and Summer, whereas richer colours such as emerald and marsala look great in Autumn and Winter. The skin tones of your bridesmaids are also important in deciding the colours of your dresses, as different colours go better with different complexions. For example, jewel tones complement fairer complexions, whereas brighter, bolder colours really pop against darker skin.

Push the boat out

As with all parts of your wedding day, just how adventurous you want to be with your bridesmaids dresses is entirely up to you. Why not have your bridesmaids in different shades of the same colour going from light to dark to create a lovely spectrum effect? Another idea is to have your maid of honour in a printed dress, while the rest of your girls are in solid colours.
